Roll up roll up, can you spot which of these images are using DLSS 5?
NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 upscaling technology has matured to a point where visual quality differences from native resolution are increasingly difficult to detect. A free GitHub project called DLSS 5 NeuralScreen brings this technology to the desktop as an accessible application, enabling system-wide upscaling. The tool has become more intuitive and feature-rich since its initial release, lowering barriers to adoption.
To demonstrate DLSS 5’s effectiveness, the article presents a series of visual comparisons using frames from the GTA 6 trailer, each processed through DLSS 5 at 100% intensity levels. As the progression continues, identifying visual artifacts or quality degradation becomes increasingly challenging. The test results suggest that DLSS 5’s AI-based upscaling has reached a maturity level where it preserves visual detail with minimal perceptible loss, even at maximum settings. This advancement highlights how far neural upscaling has come in balancing performance gains with image quality, potentially making the technology more appealing to PC gamers seeking better frame rates without noticeable visual compromises.
