GTA 6 Gets Official ESRB Rating and It’s as Mature as You’d Expect
Grand Theft Auto VI has received an official M for Mature rating from the ESRB and international ratings boards. The designation covers the game’s depictions of blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol—a comprehensive list of mature themes typical of Rockstar Games’ major franchises.
A significant distinction emerged when New Zealand and Australia’s ratings boards updated store listings: GTA 6 will explicitly feature sex scenes. While GTA 5 included mature content and was similarly rated, its official classification did not specifically mention intercourse. GTA 6’s ratings now formally acknowledge sexual scenes, marking an apparent shift toward more explicit depiction of adult content compared to the previous mainline entry.
This development aligns with Rockstar Games’ established pattern of incorporating controversial and mature themes across its titles. The addition of specifically-mentioned sex scenes suggests the developer is taking a more transparent approach to its mature content in the new generation.
