Free Metro Redux Update Coming for PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X/S and PC

4A Games has announced free next-gen updates for Metro Redux, the remastered collection of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, marking the series’ achievement of 50 million lifetime sales. The updates are rolling out across current-generation platforms, with the PC version launching on October 22nd and Xbox Series X/S versions arriving on October 29th, while PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro versions will also receive the upgrade.

While 4A Games emphasizes this is not a full remaster or remake, the updates bring significant technical improvements designed for modern hardware. These enhancements include support for 4K textures, improved animation fidelity, higher quality audio, richer environmental detail, TSR upscaling technology, and anti-aliasing support on Xbox Series X. The updates address long-standing compatibility issues, as the original 2014 Redux versions haven’t aged particularly well on modern hardware despite being notable technical showcases in their time.

The free updates arrive ahead of Metro 2039’s February 4, 2027 release, giving players an opportunity to revisit the franchise’s earlier entries in enhanced form ahead of the new entry’s arrival. The upgrades represent 4A Games’ commitment to supporting the franchise while preserving the original Metro Redux experience and aesthetic that fans have come to know.
