New Uncharted game reportedly in the works at Naughty Dog, and it’s not a remake

Naughty Dog is reportedly in early development on a new entry in its Uncharted franchise, marking the series’ first new installment since 2017’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The project is being directed by Shaun Escayag, a studio veteran who previously directed The Lost Legacy and recently returned to Naughty Dog after a brief stint working on Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers.

According to reports from MP1st and corroborated by VGC and insider NateTheHate, the new game will be a fresh entry rather than a remake of an existing title in the series. The project will bring back series protagonist Nathan Drake, though his exact role remains unclear—he may not serve as the game’s lead character.

The Uncharted 5 development comes as Naughty Dog continues work on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, its first new intellectual property since 2013’s The Last of Us. The reported development roadmap suggests Intergalactic will release first, followed by Uncharted 5, with The Last of Us 3 planned for a later date in the studio’s lineup.

The announcement represents a return to the action-adventure franchise after six years without a mainline release, reigniting anticipation for one of PlayStation’s flagship series.
