Kingdom Come: Deliverance studio co-founder hopes Grand Theft Auto 6 will ‘blaze a trail’ to higher game prices

Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima has expressed hope that Grand Theft Auto 6’s anticipated commercial success will help establish higher base prices for AAA games industry-wide. Speaking candidly, Klima acknowledged he isn’t a fan of the Grand Theft Auto franchise and has no plans to play GTA 6 upon its November 19 console debut. However, he views the game’s likely success as an opportunity for the broader industry.

Klima’s argument centers on rising development costs. He contends that as games become increasingly expensive to produce, the revenue to support these budgets must come from somewhere. He believes that if a blockbuster title like GTA 6 successfully justifies a higher retail price point, it could normalize increased pricing across the industry, benefiting smaller studios like Warhorse in their own pricing strategies.

The co-founder’s comments reflect broader industry concerns about sustainability and profitability in game development. Klima’s core position is that price increases represent a necessary evolution for the industry’s financial health, particularly for studios bearing substantial development expenses.
