Ace Combat 8 Developers Address ‘Belkan War’ Disappointment
The Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve development team has apologized for confusion among Steam players regarding the game’s pre-order bonus, which includes Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. The issue centers on platform inconsistency in how players access the bonus content.
On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, players receive The Belkan War as a standalone title that can be launched independently from Ace Combat 8. However, Steam players find The Belkan War bundled with Ace Combat 8 and inaccessible as a separate application.
The developers explained that releasing The Belkan War as a standalone title on Steam is impossible “due to licensing restrictions and platform-related considerations.” These technical and licensing limitations prevented feature parity with console versions, ultimately disappointing players who expected equivalent pre-order bonus treatment across all platforms.
The situation highlights the complexities of managing cross-platform releases when digital storefronts and licensing agreements impose different constraints by platform. The developer’s proactive apology aims to address player frustration over the disparity in pre-order bonus delivery, though the Steam limitation appears immovable without resolving underlying licensing issues.
