In 5 Years, Will Netflix Still Be In Gaming? Here’s What The CEO Said
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed at Bloomberg’s Screentime event this week that the company plans to continue investing in gaming over the next five years. When asked directly about Netflix’s gaming presence in five years, Sarandos responded affirmatively, saying “I think so.”
Sarandos framed Netflix’s current mobile gaming efforts as foundational to a larger strategic vision. He described mobile gaming as “a gateway to cloud gaming,” revealing that Netflix is “much more interested in” cloud gaming than traditional mobile offerings. This positions the company’s existing mobile gaming library as a stepping stone toward their long-term cloud gaming ambitions.
Currently, Netflix’s gaming catalog includes a diverse range of titles such as Red Dead Redemption, Sonic Mania Plus, and RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch. All games are included with a standard Netflix subscription and feature no advertisements. The service also offers streaming games that can be played directly on televisions, expanding beyond mobile-only experiences.
Netflix’s strategic shift toward cloud gaming aligns with broader industry trends as streaming technology matures. The company’s emphasis on delivering games as part of its core membership experience—rather than through separate monetization—distinguishes its approach from competitors.
