Batman, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter Feature in First Trailer for Skydance, the Newly Named Parent Company for a Merged Warner Bros. and Paramount
Warner Bros. and Paramount are merging under the newly created parent company Skydance in a historic $110 billion deal. The merger is led by David Ellison, with financial backing from his billionaire father Larry Ellison, marking a major consolidation in the entertainment industry.
The deal comes following a hostile bid for Warner Bros. that was launched last year by Skydance and Paramount. The proposed merger brings together two of the largest and longest-established film and television studios in the entertainment industry.
The combined entity will oversee some of the most valuable entertainment franchises and intellectual properties, including Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and Batman. Under the new structure, both Warner Bros. and Paramount will continue to operate as sub-brands under Skydance’s ownership.
The merger has faced considerable regulatory scrutiny both within the United States and internationally. Various regulatory bodies have attempted to block or delay the transaction, with approval processes extended and potential holds on finalization extending into mid-2027. Despite these challenges and delays, the deal has moved forward.
Industry observers have raised concerns that the merger could result in significant job losses through corporate consolidation and operational streamlining as the two studios are integrated under unified management and ownership.
