Sony’s Revised PS5 Slim Could Be Getting Cheaper To Make, But Not To Buy

Sony has quietly released revised PS5 Slim consoles featuring several internal hardware improvements designed to enhance longevity and repairability. The changes were discovered by Polish hardware expert Modyfikator89, who identified refinements across the motherboard that appear to have rolled out around the launch of the Marvel’s Wolverine limited-edition PS5 console.

The key upgrades include easier access to the CR2023 battery for user replacement, a streamlined internal layout that reduces repair risks, and enhanced thermal management inspired by the PS5 Pro. Sony has revised the liquid-metal containment around the processor die with improved barrier materials and updated heatsink components, aiming to maintain stable temperatures over time and prevent potential liquid-metal leakage.

While the improvements may not be immediately visible to consumers, the consensus among hardware technicians is that the optimizations represent meaningful advances in console reliability and maintainability. These incremental refinements are consistent with Sony’s typical approach of iterating on hardware throughout a console generation, though no official announcement has been made regarding the changes.
