Nintendo Switch 2 Just Got 2 of the Last Decade’s Best RPGs
Nintendo Switch 2 has received two significant role-playing game releases from Square Enix within the past two weeks: Dragon Quest 11S and Octopath Traveler 2. Both titles rank among Square Enix’s best-regarded RPGs of the past decade. A port of the original Octopath Traveler also launched for Switch 2, though it lacks the critically acclaimed status of its newer sequel.
A notable limitation affects all three releases: Square Enix has not provided upgrade paths for players who already own these games on other platforms. Furthermore, save files cannot be transferred between versions, making it difficult to recommend these ports to existing players who are satisfied with their current iterations.
The Octopath Traveler ports demonstrate relatively minor technical improvements over their original Switch versions, with the primary upgrade being faster load times. In contrast, Dragon Quest 11S represents a more substantial enhancement compared to the original Switch release. The new Switch 2 version is expected to deliver notably improved performance and visual presentation compared to its predecessor.
