Bungie co-founder and Destiny 2 narrative director launch transmedia studio Stone Kite

Stone Kite, a new transmedia studio, has been launched by Bungie co-founder Jason Jones and Destiny 2 narrative director Margaret Stohl. Based in Los Angeles, the studio describes itself as a “world-building studio” that takes a collaborative approach to storytelling across multiple media formats.

Jones, who co-created the Halo and Destiny franchises, brings decades of experience in game development and world-building. Stohl, who served as the narrative director for Destiny 2, previously co-founded 7 Studios with Lewis Paterson, which was acquired by Activision. She is also an author known for the Beautiful Creatures series and now serves as CEO of Stone Kite.

The studio’s founding philosophy emphasizes collaborative world-building rather than adapting a single medium outward. According to Stohl, “Instead of starting in one medium and adapting outward, we bring global creators from different disciplines to shape the world together.” This approach reflects a commitment to developing intellectual property that exists authentically across games, film, television, books, and other media simultaneously.

Stone Kite is launching with its first original IP project, One Zero One, which is being adapted from an original manuscript. The studio’s debut marks an entry into the competitive transmedia storytelling space where games, narrative-driven content, and other media formats intersect.
