System Shock 2 Remaster Is Free to Keep on the Epic Games Store Right Now
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is currently available for free on the Epic Games Store through October 8, 2026. Players can claim the game through a free Epic Games account and keep it permanently in their library, as with all of the store’s weekly free offerings. The game must be played through the Epic Games Launcher.
Nightdive Studios released this remaster in June 2025, marking another entry in the studio’s portfolio of acclaimed classic game revivals, which also includes remasters of Quake and Star Wars: Dark Forces. The 25th Anniversary Remaster preserves the original game’s design philosophy while modernizing its presentation and mechanics. Key improvements include remastered visuals, enhanced cutscenes, and updated character models alongside gameplay refinements that bring the 1999 immersive sim to contemporary standards.
The offer provides an opportunity for both longtime fans and new players to experience the influential sci-fi horror game without financial commitment. System Shock 2 is widely recognized as a foundational title in the immersive simulation genre.
