Grand Theft Auto 6 features ‘detailed decapitation’ and ‘frequent and prominent’ drug use, according to hastily deleted PEGI rating
Grand Theft Auto 6 has received age ratings from multiple regulatory bodies, confirming its status as an adult-only title. The game received an 18+ rating from both PEGI and the ESRB, as well as a Mature classification in the United States.
PEGI’s rating descriptor, which has since been removed from the organization’s website, provided notably detailed content warnings. The rating stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 “features strong graphic violence, strong sexual themes, and use of illegal drugs.” The descriptor went further than typical rating summaries, apparently inadvertently revealing new game mechanics and systems through its specificity.
The hastily deleted rating was discovered by GamesRadar+, which highlighted how PEGI’s unusually detailed breakdown mentioned “detailed decapitation” and “frequent and prominent” drug use—specifics that Rockstar Games may not have intended to publicize ahead of the game’s release.
The multiple 18+ and Mature ratings across different regions align with Grand Theft Auto’s legacy of mature content. However, PEGI’s particular granularity proved more revelatory than typical age classification summaries. The removal of the rating from PEGI’s official website suggests potential coordination to limit early disclosure of specific gameplay mechanics before the publisher’s official announcements.
