PlatinumGames boss hints he wants to expand Bayonetta as Stellar Blade director calls the series “indispensable”
PlatinumGames President Atsushi Inaba has expressed interest in expanding the Bayonetta franchise, hinting at potential future projects during a Tokyo Game Show interview without confirming specific announcements.
Speaking alongside Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-tae—whose studio collaborated with PlatinumGames on Bayonetta-themed costumes coming to Stellar Blade Complete Edition on Switch 2 in November—Inaba indicated he wants to further develop the character of Bayonetta and broaden her world. While maintaining ambiguity about concrete plans, Inaba laughed through his answer when asked about the franchise’s future, encouraging fans to look forward to upcoming developments.
Kim Hyung-tae used the opportunity to praise the Bayonetta series, calling it “an indispensable work in my life” and naming it one of his three favorite games. His endorsement reflects Bayonetta’s cultural impact and influence on character-action game design.
The comments come as PlatinumGames faces personnel transitions, with several lead developers reportedly departing the studio. Despite this period of change, Inaba’s remarks suggest the company remains committed to the iconic Umbra Witch franchise and sees potential for growth within its world and character.
For Bayonetta fans, the statements offer modest hope that new projects may be in development, though any formal announcements remain forthcoming. The crossover with Stellar Blade marks a rare collaboration that celebrates Bayonetta’s legacy while potentially setting the stage for expanded universe exploration.
