Fourth RuneScape officially revealed

Jagex has officially announced RuneScape 4, the fourth major MMO in the long-running RuneScape franchise. The announcement came at RuneFest in Birmingham, with the studio revealing the new game will be built on Unreal Engine, marking a significant technical shift from the custom engines used in previous entries.

The new MMO will bring the world of Gielinor to life using Unreal Engine, combining the depth, freedom, and community-led spirit that have defined RuneScape for 25 years with modern game design capabilities. Currently in early development under the working title RS4, Jagex indicates the game remains at least several years from release.

Jagex also announced a RuneScape animated adaptation in partnership with YouTuber Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White, expanding the franchise’s presence beyond traditional MMO formats. The transition to Unreal Engine positions the new title to offer significant graphical and performance improvements over current RuneScape games.
