RuneScape Reignited launches 2 December
Jagex announced RuneScape Reignited, a new permanent character type launching December 2, 2026. Revealed at RuneFest 2026, Reignited offers a fresh-start experience with a brand-new economy and hiscores featuring no paid progression. The feature is designed for existing, returning, and new players across all experience levels.
Reignited characters exist within the same RS3 worlds as standard characters and receive full free access, though they operate on separate progression tracks. Jagex’s announcement positions this as providing “the full adventure from the start” for players seeking a clean slate.
The announcement has sparked community concern about potential player base fragmentation, with established RuneScape veterans expressing skepticism about splitting the community into separate character progression systems. Some players took to social media to voice reservations.
The initiative reflects industry trends toward alternative progression pathways in mature MMOs, comparable to World of Warcraft’s announced eternal servers. Alongside RuneScape Reignited’s announcement, Jagex revealed development of a fourth RuneScape MMO being built with Unreal Engine, signaling continued expansion of the RuneScape franchise.
