10 Essential Sega Genesis Games Still Missing From Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have access to classic games through the service’s Expansion Pass, including titles from the Sega Genesis. However, the Genesis catalog on Switch Online remains incomplete, with many essential titles still unavailable.
According to a Polygon report, while the Sega Genesis had an extensive hardware library, only a selection of its best games have made it to Nintendo’s subscription service. The article highlights 10 essential Genesis games missing from Switch Online, beginning with Boogerman: A Pick and Flick Adventure, a personality-driven platformer released in 1994 by Interplay Entertainment.
Boogerman exemplifies the creative, character-driven game releases that defined early 1990s gaming. The title’s absence from Switch Online—along with other notable Genesis exclusions—suggests that licensing agreements, publisher priorities, or other factors may limit which classic Sega titles become available through the subscription service.
The report underscores ongoing questions about game preservation and the completeness of retro game offerings on modern platforms. While Switch Online has brought many beloved classics to contemporary hardware, gaps in the Genesis library highlight the challenges in securing rights and making entire catalogs of important legacy games accessible to new generations of players.
