Disney president and CCO dismisses rumours of Epic Games buyout: “Those are not the conversations we are having right now”
Disney president and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden has dismissed ongoing speculation about a potential acquisition of Epic Games, stating that such a deal is not currently being discussed between the companies.
Walden’s comments came at Bloomberg’s Screentime event, where she reaffirmed Disney’s commitment to its partnership with Epic Games following the company’s $1.5 billion equity investment in 2024. She emphasized that both companies are engaged in “very serious conversations” focused on leveraging their partnership to create value.
According to Walden, Disney and Epic are concentrating their efforts on upcoming launches to demonstrate the strength and benefits of their collaborative relationship. She cited the recent success of transmedia content initiatives, including The Mandalorian and Grogu projects, as examples of how the partnership is delivering results.
The partnership represents Disney’s significant commitment to the gaming and digital entertainment sectors through Epic Games’ technology and creative capabilities. Rather than pursuing an acquisition, both entities appear focused on proving the viability and profitability of their current joint ventures in developing cross-platform entertainment experiences.
