Halo Studios says “it is absolutely our intent” to release new Halo book, despite layoffs and a rumored lore reboot from Activision

Halo Studios has reaffirmed its commitment to releasing a previously-announced Halo novel, stating “it is absolutely our intent” to complete the project despite significant organizational upheaval. The reassurance comes following mass layoffs at the studio as part of Xbox’s sweeping restructure, which also transferred supervision of the entire Halo franchise to Activision. Xbox executive Matt Booty confirmed that only “a small team at Halo Studios will continue supporting the Halo community and games in-market” after the cuts. The studio’s determination to finish the book project stands in contrast to uncertainty surrounding other initiatives, particularly amid reports of a potential lore reboot being planned by Activision. Franchise writer Alex Wakeford has publicly addressed the situation, emphasizing the team’s resolve to see the novel through to completion. The restructuring represents a significant shift in how the long-running sci-fi franchise will be managed, with Activision now exercising supervisory control over the series’ creative direction and output.
