Sicario 3 Will Reunite Emily Blunt With Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin
Sicario 3 is officially moving forward with its original cast intact. Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin are all signed to return for the latest installment of the gritty crime thriller series, following up 2018’s Sicario: Day of the Soldado. While reports of a third film have circulated for years, the project gained significant momentum in 2026, with actor Josh Brolin confirming earlier that summer that production would proceed.
The third installment brings notable creative changes to the franchise. Director Padraic McKinley, who recently helmed a drama film, will direct the project. More significantly, Steven Knight—best known as creator of HBO’s Peaky Blinders and writer of acclaimed films including Eastern Promises and Spencer—has been brought on as screenwriter.
This marks a departure from earlier reports suggesting that Taylor Sheridan, the original Sicario writer and creator of Yellowstone, would write the script for Sicario 3. According to Deadline, Sheridan will apparently not be directly involved in the threequel. The decision to bring in fresh creative talent while retaining the core cast represents a strategic refresh for the franchise, with Knight’s selection bringing significant prestige given his track record in creating compelling character-driven narratives across television and film.
