Ubisoft Boss Says Watch Dogs Is ‘Important’ to Company’s Future, But Don’t Expect Any New Entries Anytime Soon

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that Watch Dogs remains strategically important to the company’s future, despite the absence of immediate development plans. During Ubisoft’s October 1 annual investor meeting, Guillemot addressed franchise concerns, emphasizing that Watch Dogs is considered “an important brand for the future,” though he offered limited specifics.

The franchise is not currently prioritized within Ubisoft’s creative structure. Guillemot revealed that Watch Dogs has not been assigned to any of Ubisoft’s creative houses—the company’s internal development divisions—and suggested the IP may be “potentially remade” before receiving such an assignment. This signals that Ubisoft is still determining the franchise’s creative direction.

Watch Dogs, launched in 2014, remains relatively young in Ubisoft’s portfolio. The most recent mainline title, Watch Dogs: Legion (2020), received a paid expansion called Bloodline. With no games currently in active development, Ubisoft appears to be taking time to evaluate how to evolve the series for future releases.
