BBC Reveals New Doctor Who Spinoff Starring a ‘Young Doctor’ With Blue Hair and a Robot Toaster Sidekick
The BBC has announced a new animated Doctor Who spinoff series titled Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew, designed to introduce younger audiences to the science fiction franchise. The series will feature a young incarnation of the Doctor character with distinctive blue spiky hair—a new take on the Time Lord not previously seen in the classic series. The Doctor will be joined by companions Hannah, Beastie, and Toast-IE, a robot toaster sidekick, as they embark on adventures through time and space.
The show is being produced by Blue Zoo Animation Studio, a London-based animation company known for creating children’s educational series such as Alphablocks and Numberblocks. The series is scheduled to premiere on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in late 2027 or early 2028, arriving approximately a year before the main Doctor Who series is expected to return to air.
This spinoff represents the BBC’s strategy to maintain the Doctor Who franchise’s presence during the primary series’ hiatus while targeting younger viewers through animated storytelling and comedic character designs, particularly the robot toaster companion.
