GTA 6 Won’t Be ‘Too Specific About Any Particular Person, Event, or Movement,’ Rockstar Says GTA Has Never Focused on ‘National Politics’
Rockstar Games has clarified that Grand Theft Auto 6 will avoid being “too specific about any particular person, event, or movement,” taking a measured approach to political satire in the upcoming game. While the developer has a history of pushing boundaries—with GTA 5 notably addressing torture and government surveillance—the studio is drawing a distinction between political commentary and references to real-world figures or current events.
The reasoning is practical: games with multi-year development cycles risk becoming outdated if they incorporate specific contemporary political moments or parody real-world individuals. Rockstar used the example of creating a character based on Elon Musk (“Melon Husk”) who launches rockets—by the time such a game shipped, the satirical reference would be stale compared to real-world developments. Rather than pursuing topical political satire, Rockstar notes that GTA has historically focused on broader themes and social commentary rather than specific national politics.
Despite this more measured approach to current events, GTA 6 is still described as exploring themes of love, passion, and the decline of the American dream, suggesting the game will maintain the series’ tradition of social critique even while avoiding explicit real-world political targeting.
