Hideo Kojima Acknowledges Fan-Made P.T. Port That Runs Natively on PC
P.T. (Playable Teaser) has returned to playability through fan efforts. Originally released as a short demo in August 2014 for PlayStation 4, P.T. was intended as a playable teaser for a new Silent Hills game developed by Hideo Kojima with starring role for actor Norman Reedus. The project was cancelled due to a falling out between Kojima and publisher Konami, and the demo was subsequently delisted from the PlayStation Store in 2015, making it inaccessible to new players and those who had deleted it from their consoles.
A dedicated fan has developed a native Windows port of P.T., enabling the game to be played on PC. This accomplishment represents a significant effort in game preservation, as it restores access to what many consider one of the most terrifying games ever made. Kojima himself has acknowledged this fan-made port, lending his support to the preservation effort.
The fan-made port addresses a long-standing issue in gaming: the disappearance of digital content due to licensing disputes and publisher decisions. P.T.’s delisting exemplified the precarious nature of digital game ownership, particularly for titles tied to complex corporate relationships. By creating a native Windows version, the fan has enabled a much broader audience to experience the game, as PC gaming represents a significantly larger player base than the PS4’s exclusive version.
This development highlights both the passion of gaming communities in preserving important titles and the ongoing challenges surrounding game preservation in the digital age.
