‘Please give Novus one more chance’: An 11-year-old early access survival game just got its first update since 2018
Novus Inceptio, an early access survival game dormant for nearly a decade, received its first significant update this week. The game entered early access in October 2015 and remained unchanged since 2018. According to the solo developer at McMagic Productions, they are now focused on reviving the project, stating that “the energy and the will to finish the project are back.”
The update brings substantial changes to the game, including a major expansion of the playable world. The game’s map has grown from 9 square kilometers to 64 square kilometers of wilderness terrain. Additionally, the game’s combat system has been completely rebuilt. The update also marks a shift in design philosophy—it now focuses on single-player gameplay, though the developer has indicated plans to implement co-operative multiplayer features in the future.
Novus Inceptio exemplifies early access games that struggle to maintain momentum during development. With approximately eleven years in development, the project represents a rare case of a developer resurrecting an early access title after a prolonged hiatus. The new update suggests the developer’s commitment to completing the project and finally bringing it beyond its early access status.
