Warner Bros. Games Now Belongs To Skydance, But Company Makes No Mention Of That In Big Announcement
Paramount has officially completed its massive $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, creating a new entity now known as Skydance. The merger consolidates two major entertainment conglomerates, with Warner Bros. Games becoming part of the newly formed company. Notably, despite the gaming division’s substantial portfolio and strategic importance, the official announcement of the deal’s completion made no mention of video games whatsoever—a significant omission given Warner Bros. Discovery’s considerable investments in gaming.
David Ellison, CEO of the acquiring entity and son of billionaire Oracle founder Larry Ellison, has stated that he is an avid gamer himself. However, whether his personal interest in gaming will translate to support and investment in the games division remains unclear. The transaction drew attention due to the Ellison family’s close political connections, particularly with the Trump administration, with some industry observers noting these relationships may have helped facilitate regulatory approval of the unprecedented deal.
The acquisition marks the end of a competitive bidding process in which Netflix had initially secured the top offer before Paramount ultimately prevailed.
