South Australian government makes largest investment in game development by doubling its Digital Games Fund to $1m
The South Australian Film Corporation has announced a major expansion of its Digital Games Fund, doubling annual support to $1 million. This marks the South Australian government’s largest single investment in game development, building on the success of the inaugural round last October, which distributed $500,000 across 11 studios.
The expanded DGF now operates through three distinct funding streams designed to support developers at all stages of production. The funding structure includes grants of up to $30,000 for early-stage development, covering pre-production, prototype development, proof of concept, design, and market testing activities. A second tier provides up to $150,000 to support production as projects progress toward commercialization.
This investment reflects South Australia’s strategic commitment to cultivating a robust local game development sector. By providing tiered financial support across multiple production phases, the government aims to reduce barriers to entry for emerging studios while enabling established developers to scale their projects. The initiative is positioned to strengthen South Australia’s gaming industry presence and foster a sustainable creative economy in the region.
