Michael Bay in Talks to Direct Next Transformers Film, Steven Spielberg Returning as Key Creative Producer

Michael Bay is in early talks to direct the next Transformers live-action film following a successful meeting with Steven Spielberg. Spielberg has been appointed as executive producer to “focus on all creative aspects” of the project—a role he previously held on the first two Bay-directed Transformers films.

Spielberg will lead creative direction alongside long-time producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Paramount has been pursuing Spielberg for a year to help revive the franchise, and he recently agreed to the role after reviewing the script. The announcement comes as Paramount completes its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, enabling the studio to move swiftly on major franchises.

Bay previously directed the first five live-action Transformers films, making him the franchise’s most experienced director. The reunion of Bay and Spielberg signals Paramount’s determination to revitalize the series following recent box office challenges. The involvement of both filmmakers represents a significant commitment to restoring the Transformers franchise to prominence.
