Xbox Elite Series 3 Controller Leaked Via Microsoft’s Own Design Lab

Microsoft’s long-anticipated Xbox Elite Series 3 controller appears to be nearing release, as detailed specifications and configuration files have been discovered in the company’s Xbox Design Lab backend service. The controller, codenamed “Edessa,” will succeed the seven-year-old Xbox Elite Series 2 and aims to catch up with premium competitors like the PlayStation DualSense and Steelseries Aeon Pro.

The leaked specifications reveal significant upgrades across multiple areas. The controller will feature both Hall Effect and Tunnel Magnetoresistance (TMR) stick technologies, which use magnets rather than physical connections to detect movement. These alternatives offer improved durability and responsiveness compared to traditional analogue sticks.

Advanced haptics represent another major upgrade, including Impulse Triggers that convert electrical signals into physical feedback and trigger-specific vibration capabilities. The controller will also support swappable joystick modules, including a new “silent stick” option for quieter gameplay.

Additional customization features include an interchangeable D-pad, back paddles, and what appears to be an audio scroll wheel. The Design Lab service will allow users to create custom configurations, reflecting the premium nature of this peripheral.

This latest leak follows previous revelations dating back to May 2026, when the controller was accidentally sent to a Brazilian government regulator. Further leaks appeared on Reddit in August. The discovery of configuration files on Xbox’s own backend service suggests Microsoft’s official announcement may be imminent.

The Elite Series 3 appears positioned to reclaim relevance among premium controller users who have switched to competing alternatives, offering a substantial upgrade package that matches or exceeds features found in other high-end gaming peripherals.
