Xbox Reportedly Secures Exclusive Cloud Streaming Rights to GTA 6, Could Make Game Playable on PC at Launch
Microsoft has secured exclusive game streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI via Xbox Cloud Gaming at its November 19 launch. According to reports from The Verge, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced the deal during an employee town hall, describing it as something “no other platform holder is doing.”
The exclusivity means that at launch, GTA 6 will only be streamable through Xbox Cloud Gaming, enabling players to access the game on PC, smart TVs, and mobile devices without requiring an Xbox console. This arrangement could provide an immediate way for PC players to experience the title at release, particularly significant given that Rockstar Games has not yet announced a standard PC version.
The deal coincides with Microsoft’s rollout of a pay-as-you-go subscription option for Xbox Cloud Gaming, expanding access beyond traditional Game Pass subscribers. Industry observers have characterized it as “the biggest deal in Xbox Cloud Gaming history.” However, the duration of the streaming exclusivity remains unclear, with sources unable to confirm how long the arrangement will extend beyond launch.
