Arc Raiders’ Huge Update Introduces Its Best Gadget Ever
Arc Raiders’ “Frozen Trail” update, launching October 8, 2026, marks the biggest content addition since the extraction shooter’s launch a year ago. The update is designed to revitalize the game after a significant player decline in its first year, despite strong initial reception as one of 2025’s bestsellers.
The update introduces extensive new content, including a new snowy map, two endgame raid-style encounters (the Emperor and Frigate), three new Arc enemies (notably the “Bully”), a new weapon amplification system, and additional weapons. However, the standout feature is the new grappling hook gadget, which offers similar functionality to the existing snaphook but at a much lower rarity tier, making it significantly more accessible to players. This design change addresses a key limitation of the original legendary-tier snaphook, which players avoided using due to fear of losing it.
Developer Embark Studios announced in May 2026 a strategic shift to semi-annual major updates, moving away from the previous monthly update cadence that had become unsustainable. The studio cited the need to create a healthier development environment while delivering more meaningful and engaging content rather than maintaining a constant release schedule.
