Blood Bowl 3 is being replaced by Warhammer Blood Bowl: What will happen to everyone’s unspent currency?
Blood Bowl 3, the digital adaptation of Games Workshop’s tabletop fantasy football game, is being replaced by an upgraded version called Warhammer Blood Bowl, which is currently in beta. The transition comes with a significant publisher change: Slitherine has taken over publishing and development duties from Focus Home Interactive.
For existing players, there is good news and a looming question. Slitherine confirmed that anyone who owns Blood Bowl 3 will receive Warhammer Blood Bowl for free, and their accounts will transfer to the new version. This means progression and account data will carry over to the new game.
However, the mechanics for unlocking new teams will change substantially in the transition. Blood Bowl 3 features Warpstone, an in-game currency used to purchase cosmetics and new teams from its store. With these new mechanics coming to Warhammer Blood Bowl, the central question for players becomes critical: what happens to unspent Warpstone currency?
This uncertainty is significant for players who have accumulated in-game currency over time. Should they spend it immediately while they still can in Blood Bowl 3, or will their currency balance safely transfer to the new version? The answer could affect how much value players retain from their previous spending and progression.
The transition represents a meaningful shift for the Blood Bowl community, combining the promise of a free upgrade and account transfer with structural changes that could impact the monetization ecosystem and player investment in the live-service game.
