Cities: Skylines Announced For Switch 2 While Sequel’s Console Ports Are Still MIA
Paradox Interactive has announced Cities: Skylines - Expanded Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, launching on October 28. The port, developed by Tantalus Media (known for the Switch port of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword), will retail for $49 and offer existing Switch owners a 70% discount.
The Expanded Edition represents a significant improvement over the original 2018 Switch release, which launched in rough condition. Key enhancements include 25 buildable tiles (up from nine), dual graphics modes targeting 60fps and 30fps, a map editor, keyboard and mouse support, 10 included DLC expansions, and improved UI for precision placement and environmental controls.
The enhanced port addresses longtime complaints about the original Switch version and showcases the capabilities of Nintendo’s new hardware. However, the announcement also underscores a notable absence: console ports for Cities: Skylines 2, the sequel launched in 2023, have yet to materialize. While PC players have had access to the newer title, console gamers remain waiting for any official announcement regarding ports to PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo platforms—despite the strong demand evident from the original game’s console success.
The Expanded Edition launch suggests continued interest in bringing the Cities: Skylines franchise to Nintendo’s newest platform, even as questions linger about the sequel’s console future.
