GTA 6 Wants Losing Your Wanted Level To Feel Like A “Hit-And-Run”
Rockstar Games has revealed new gameplay details about Grand Theft Auto 6 through an extensive interview with Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, conducted during a 30-minute IGN gameplay demo. The game follows Jason and Lucia, dual protagonists who are both partners in crime and lovers. A key narrative element is their status as criminals on the run, with physical intimacy playing a significant role in their relationship. Rockstar emphasizes that this aspect “has to be done right,” iterating until it feels appropriate. The game’s ESRB rating confirms nudity and strong sexual content.
A fundamental shift in gameplay design is that NPCs now have their own agency and impulses, rather than simply fleeing from the player. Nelson stated that “the world will act upon you as well as you acting upon the world,” contrasting with previous GTA games where players felt “all-powerful.” This creates a more dynamic environment where players face real consequences and opposition beyond police encounters.
The wanted level system has been redesigned to feel more realistic, allowing players to shake off law enforcement through methods beyond simply escaping highlighted map zones. Robbery mechanics have been significantly expanded—players can now rob “pretty much anything,” extending far beyond traditional convenience store robberies. The game world encourages extensive exploration and interaction, with numerous interactive elements throughout Leonida’s environments.
