HBO’s Lanterns Just Revealed a Major Finale Detail
HBO’s Lanterns season 1 finale concluded without fully showcasing John Stewart’s Green Lantern powers. While viewers didn’t see John suit up with his power ring the way Hal Jordan did in the series, the finale did reveal his unique power source: the Dark Lantern.
According to concept art shared by series concept artist Ed Natividad on Instagram, the Dark Lantern serves as John Stewart’s power battery—the glowing artifact that fuels the hero’s extraordinary abilities. The Instagram renders provide the clearest look yet at this ominous-sounding object central to the character’s story arc.
John Stewart’s full Green Lantern transformation will continue in James Gunn’s upcoming Man of Tomorrow, which is confirmed to feature Aaron Pierre reprising his role as Earth’s Green Lantern. The film will presumably showcase John wielding his new powers in the signature emerald suit that fans expect from the character.
The naming of the power source as the “Dark Lantern” carries intriguing implications for John Stewart’s journey, suggesting a darker or unconventional approach to the Green Lantern legacy compared to traditional wielders like Hal Jordan.
