Minecraft Switch 2 Pre-Orders Now Live, Free Digital Upgrade Path Confirmed As “Limited Time Offer”
Pre-orders for Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2 are now live, launching ahead of the console’s October 27, 2026 release. Mojang has provided important details about how existing Minecraft players can transition to the new hardware.
Current owners of the digital version of Minecraft on Nintendo Switch can claim a free digital upgrade to the Switch 2 version. This offer is available through January 31, 2027, creating a limited-time promotional window for existing players to upgrade their digital licenses at no cost. After this deadline, the Switch 2 version will require a separate purchase.
The free upgrade applies to digital copies of Minecraft Standard Edition. This migration path allows players with existing digital licenses on Switch to continue their experience on the new hardware without additional expense during the promotional period. The January 2027 cutoff marks the end of this complimentary upgrade opportunity.
