20 million sales later, Capcom is bringing Monster Hunter Rise to iOS and Android, but for now it’s locked behind a Netflix subscription
Monster Hunter Rise is expanding to iOS and Android through Netflix, marking a major platform expansion for Capcom’s flagship action RPG. The game, which originally launched on Nintendo Switch in 2021 before coming to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, will run natively on mobile devices and require a Netflix subscription to download and play.
With over 20 million sales across all platforms, Monster Hunter Rise is one of Capcom’s most successful titles. The mobile version will function as a native application rather than through Netflix’s cloud gaming service, allowing full performance and offline gameplay capabilities on smartphones and tablets.
Capcom is pursuing an aggressive mobile strategy for the Monster Hunter franchise. Alongside the console port, the publisher is also releasing Monster Hunter Outlanders, a separate mobile-exclusive title scheduled for October 29, 2026. This dual approach suggests the company sees significant opportunity in the mobile gaming market.
The Netflix subscription requirement represents an interesting distribution model, tying premium gaming content directly to Netflix’s service rather than using traditional free-to-play or premium purchase models. This follows Capcom’s successful track record in scaling Monster Hunter across different hardware generations, having previously adapted the Switch version for PlayStation 5 and other current-generation consoles.
