S-Game’s Phantom Blade Zero, an upcoming action RPG in the Phantom Blade/Rainblood series, is set to launch on October 29 across PlayStation 5, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The Beijing-based developer describes the game as a unique blend of wuxia (a genre centered on martial arts heroes, typically set in ancient China), fantasy, and folk horror elements—a combination the studio has dubbed “kungfupunk.”
The game’s combat system takes significant inspiration from Dark Souls and the soulslikes genre, with particular emphasis on parrying mechanics and defensive positioning. What distinguishes Phantom Blade Zero are its cinematic finishing moves, which evoke the stylized, brutal action of the John Wick film franchise. These sequences add visceral flair to enemy encounters.
The game was officially announced during August’s PlayStation State of Play presentation. S-Game subsequently released an 11-minute gameplay trailer showcasing the opening scene, core combat mechanics, and challenging boss encounters, giving audiences a substantial preview of this latest entry in the series.
