PS5 Adding Dedicated Crunchyroll Hub Next Spring

Sony Interactive Entertainment is expanding its anime presence on PlayStation 5 by launching a dedicated Crunchyroll hub on the console’s home screen in Spring 2027. The announcement was made by PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino at the inaugural Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum.

The new hub will consolidate anime content discovery, anime-inspired games, and direct access to Crunchyroll’s streaming service in one location on the PS5, which boasts a global installed base exceeding 92 million units. This move reflects Sony’s strategy to bridge the overlapping communities of anime fans and gamers.

The initiative represents an expansion of Crunchyroll’s presence across Sony’s ecosystem, following Sony’s $1.2 billion acquisition of Crunchyroll through Funimation in 2021. At the same event, Sony also announced the creation of a new Crunchyroll Storyworks division. The hub launch follows Sony’s recent introduction of a live television service on PS5, featuring over 100 channels, signaling the company’s commitment to positioning the console as a comprehensive entertainment platform beyond gaming.
