Resident Evil Requiem DLC Could Further Rewrite One Of The Series’ Biggest Villains

Resident Evil Requiem writer Haris Orkin has revealed that the game’s upcoming story DLC will expand on Oswell E. Spencer, one of the franchise’s most significant antagonists. Details emerged during an interview at Meadowlark Comic Con, where Orkin discussed his approach to writing villains as protagonists of their own stories.

In Resident Evil Requiem, Spencer was reimagined from his traditional portrayal as a maniacal mastermind into a redemptive figure defined by regret—a notable departure from previous depictions. The DLC will provide deeper exploration of this character transformation and the motivations driving Spencer’s arc in the base game.

Orkin explained his philosophy of viewing antagonists as heroes pursuing goals they believe to be noble, applying this framework to both Spencer and Victor Gideon, the primary antagonist of Requiem’s campaign. Spencer is a founding member of Umbrella Corporation, responsible for the bioweapon crises central to the franchise, and was previously killed in Resident Evil 5.

While Capcom had previously announced story DLC following Requiem’s critical and commercial success as the fastest-selling entry in the franchise, this represents the first official detail about its direction. Orkin’s comments appeared somewhat spontaneous, with reports describing it as an accidental reveal of DLC plans.
