Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery operating under Skydance following completion of $111bn merger
Paramount has completed its $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, with both companies now operating under Skydance. As part of this major industry consolidation, the two companies’ video game divisions are merging into a single unit led by Tony Driscoll, president of Paramount Games Studio.
The combined games and experiences division will oversee development based on an extensive portfolio of intellectual property from both companies, including major franchises such as Mortal Kombat, Avatar: The Last Airbender, South Park, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, and DC Comics properties, along with SpongeBob. This brings together established game development studios including Rocksteady, NetherRealm, and Avalanche Software under unified leadership.
CEO David Ellison indicated that the integration would require “difficult decisions,” including organizational changes and impacts across the company. Co-CEO Ynon Kreiz highlighted the gaming segment’s strategic importance, stating that Skydance would develop “new businesses, products, games and experiences to engage fans wherever they are.” The merger positions Skydance as one of the largest entertainment-to-games media conglomerates, combining Paramount’s established franchises with Warner Bros.’ extensive gaming operations and development infrastructure.
