Star Wars Officially Brings Back Ezra and Thrawn for New 2027 Release
Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm announced a new Star Wars limited comic series at New York Comic Con. The five-issue series, titled Star Wars: Ahsoka — Escape from Thrawn, will explore previously untold adventures of Ezra Bridger and bring back Grand Admiral Thrawn, expanding the storyline of the Disney+ Ahsoka series. The series serves as a bridge to Ahsoka season two, revealing events that occur between Ezra’s departure in the earlier Rebels animated series and his re-emergence in the new live-action show.
The creative team includes Dave Filoni, creator of Ahsoka and president and chief creative officer of Lucasfilm, providing the story. Rodney Barnes writes the series with artwork by Andrea Di Vito. The comic is scheduled for release in 2027. The announcement continues Marvel and Lucasfilm’s strategy of expanding Star Wars storytelling across multiple media formats, using comics to fill narrative gaps and provide continuity between different branches of the franchise. This release builds on Ahsoka’s success in bringing back beloved characters from the animated Rebels series for new audiences.
