Windows 11’s new AI-powered Search can control your PC

Microsoft has unveiled a revamped Search experience for Windows 11 that extends far beyond traditional file searching. Announced at Microsoft’s Windows and Surface event, the new Search feature positions itself as a “system composer” capable of controlling PCs and performing thousands of actions directly from the Taskbar.

Rather than being limited to finding files and programs, the redesigned Search interface allows users to execute numerous quick actions without leaving the search interface. This represents a significant expansion of what Windows Search can do, integrating AI capabilities to make the system more responsive to user commands and tasks.

Pavan Davuluri, Microsoft’s Windows lead, presented the new Search experience during the event, highlighting how it fundamentally changes the way users interact with their PCs. The feature is set to begin rolling out this fall on Windows 11 machines, making it available to the broader user base.

The announcement suggests Microsoft is positioning Search as a central hub for system control and task execution, potentially reducing the need to navigate through multiple menus and applications to accomplish common actions. This aligns with broader industry trends of centralizing system functions through AI-powered interfaces that can understand and execute user commands more naturally.
