Xbox denies reports it’s acquired exclusive GTA 6 game-streaming rights, deflating hopes of playing it on PC
A report from The Verge suggested Xbox had secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6, which would have allowed PC players to stream the game via Xbox Cloud Gaming when it launches on November 19. The report cited Xbox CEO Asha Sharma’s remarks at an all-hands meeting about Microsoft doing something “no other platform holder is doing” around GTA 6.
Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball quickly refuted these claims, stating that excitement around GTA 6 had led to “misreporting.” The company confirmed that GTA 6 will not be exclusively available to stream on Xbox Cloud Gaming, nor will it be available to stream to PC at launch.
GTA 6 remains a timed console exclusive, launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19. No native PC port has been officially announced, leaving PC players without an immediate way to play when the game releases. The denied streaming deal would have represented a workaround for PC access, but that opportunity appears closed off.
