Arrow Co-Creator Shares Details and Concept Art for Canceled Green Lantern Show That Shares Striking Similarities to HBO’s Lanterns
Marc Guggenheim, co-creator of the CW’s Arrow and architect of the Arrowverse, shared concept art and development details for a canceled Green Lantern television series titled “Emerald Knights.” The announcement came via his Substack on October 7 and featured three pieces of concept artwork along with background information about the show’s intended direction.
The canceled project shared striking similarities with HBO’s upcoming “Lanterns” series, most notably a narrative spanning two distinct time periods. In Guggenheim’s version, Manhunters served as the primary villains, suggesting a focus on conflict within DC’s intergalactic law enforcement mythology. The detailed concept art provides fans with their only glimpse into this alternate vision of how a Green Lantern television adaptation might have developed.
This revelation offers insight into the television development process during a period when multiple Green Lantern projects were in consideration at different studios. While HBO proceeded with developing “Lanterns” as its Green Lantern property, Guggenheim’s artwork and notes from the Emerald Knights project preserve a compelling alternate direction for the character’s live-action adaptation.
