Magic’s Most Versatile Mechanic Comes to Disney Lorcana With a Clever Twist

Disney Lorcana, the collectible card game based on Disney properties, is introducing a new mechanic inspired by Magic: The Gathering’s ubiquitous Treasure tokens. The new mechanic, called “ink drops,” will function similarly to Treasures, serving as a resource-generation tool that helps players accelerate their mana/ink production.

The Treasure token mechanic has become fundamental to Magic: The Gathering since its introduction in 2017’s Ixalan block. These artifact tokens can be sacrificed for one mana of any color, providing flexibility in deck building and enabling both early acceleration and explosive late-game plays. Their popularity and effectiveness have made them a core part of modern Magic design.

Disney Lorcana’s ink drops will arrive with the game’s fourth-year expansion set, “Hyperia City,” which launches at local game stores on October 16 for prerelease events, with the full release following on October 23, 2026. The mechanic represents the card game’s continued evolution and adoption of proven Magic mechanics adapted for Lorcana’s unique gameplay system, helping players generate additional resources regardless of their deck’s color requirements.
