Fireshine Games acquires Necesse dev Fair Games, described as a “defining moment” for Danish indie studio
Fireshine Games has acquired Danish indie studio Fair Games, developer of the open-world sandbox game Necesse, in a move described as a significant milestone for the studio. Fair Games founder and CEO Mads Skovgaard will continue as managing director, with the studio retaining its current development team, ensuring continuity following the acquisition.
Necesse, which originally launched in 2019, has built a substantial player base of approximately 2.5 million players. The acquisition marks a strategic partnership that Fair Games has been seeking for some time, with Fireshine Games positioning itself as an ideal fit for the studio’s growth trajectory.
Under Fireshine’s stewardship, the roadmap for Necesse includes continued support for PC and expansion to additional platforms through new ports. The partnership is intended to alleviate resource constraints by having Fireshine handle larger, time-consuming development tasks, allowing Fair Games to focus on core game development and creative direction.
The deal represents industry consolidation within the indie gaming space, where larger publishers increasingly acquire successful independent studios to expand their portfolio while preserving the creative independence that made those studios successful in the first place. For Fair Games, the acquisition provides access to resources and expertise that can accelerate Necesse’s development cycle and platform availability while maintaining the studio’s identity and management structure.
