Gardens Interactive, the studio founded by the veteran developers behind acclaimed titles Journey and Sky: Children of the Light, has secured over $35 million in Series B funding. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, bringing the company’s total funding to more than $70 million since its founding.

Additional investors participating in the round include Zenith Capital, Sequoia Capital, Index Ventures, Accel, Innovation Endeavours, and Bayshore. The funding round also attracted prominent individual investors: Stewart Butterfield, co-founder and former CEO of Slack; Andy Zhong, founder and CEO of FunPlus; and Thomas Dimson, co-creator of OpenAI’s Sora.

Gardens Interactive is developing an online shared-world fantasy adventure game. The company was founded by creative veterans known for their work on Journey—the acclaimed indie title—and Sky: Children of the Light, both celebrated for their artistic and emotional impact. The latest investment will support the studio’s continued development of its shared-world experience.

The funding reflects ongoing venture capital interest in independent game studios with strong creative pedigrees, particularly those exploring innovative multiplayer and social gameplay experiences. Lightspeed Venture Partners’ involvement underscores the significant potential investors see in the studio’s vision for connected, shared-world gaming.
