Halo 3 gets 128-player multiplayer with ‘Project Reclaimer’ (but there’s a catch)
Project Reclaimer brings substantial multiplayer enhancements to Halo 3 on PC, enabling 128-player matches with full mod support. The community-driven initiative allows players to set up battles including 64-on-64 team configurations, alongside 16-player cooperative campaign play, split-screen support, and expanded Forge mode tools. The launcher operates directly from existing installations of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, requiring players to already own the base game.
The scope of improvements is notable within the modding community, offering dedicated servers and comprehensive mod support across the expanded multiplayer and cooperative features. These additions represent a significant modernization of Halo 3’s online capabilities, particularly for PC players seeking larger-scale matches and greater customization options through the Forge editor.
A significant limitation, however, is that Project Reclaimer remains exclusive to PC. Console players on Xbox cannot access these expanded multiplayer options, which restricts the feature’s reach within the broader Halo player base. This platform exclusivity represents the primary drawback of an otherwise substantial community expansion for the legacy title.
