NBA 2K27 dominated the US video game sales charts for August 2026, claiming the top position and cementing its status as the third-best-selling game of the year according to Circana data. The game achieved this ranking despite only having been released into early access on August 26, reaching the number one spot within just four days of the tracking period, which ran from August 2 to August 29.
The month proved strong for new releases overall, with six new titles entering the Top 10 best-selling games list. Madden NFL 27 finished in second place, marking a significant moment in the annual sports gaming landscape—NBA 2K27’s August victory breaks a long winning streak previously held by EA’s Madden NFL series, which had dominated August sales in both 2024 and 2025. Notably, Madden NFL 27’s Kickoff Bundle also appeared separately on the charts, claiming fourth place.
Other notable new releases in August included Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls (third place), Star Wars Zero Company (fifth place), and Big Walk (eighth place). This diverse top 10 reflects strong consumer interest in fresh gaming experiences across multiple genres.
The timing of NBA 2K27’s launch coincides with notable changes in the franchise. Earlier this month, 2K Games announced that NBA 2K25 will be delisted from digital storefronts at the end of 2026, with online servers shutting down on December 31, 2026, highlighting the live-service nature of annual sports titles.
